The Path to Lasting Fulfillment: Satisfying the Longing Within

by Dr. Johnnie Blount

Ecclesiastes 3:11 AMP tells us that “He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]—yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end.”

It Is In Our DNA To Fulfill Our Purpose

First, the path to fulfillment begins with purpose. In every man’s DNA is the desire to be successful and to fulfill their purpose. They may not know this in their mind, but in their heart it is true. People who don’t know that they have a purpose or what their purpose is seek out worldly alternatives. Many successful people in the world look like they have it all. They have numerous material things, businesses, girl or boy friends, and a wife or husband. They may have the number one movie of the year. Then when the camera and the lights are turned off their soul is in darkness.

This is why you see Hollywood stars and other famous people doing crazy things. For example, Sean “Diddy” Combs is in prison because he, like so many others, tried to fulfill the flesh. They are hurting on the inside and end up hurting people who they love on the outside. They do not understand that we are not put here for our own purpose, but for our heavenly Father’s purpose. When we do not fulfill our God-given purpose, then we hinder others from fulfilling theirs. It is important to understand that in order for the Holy Spirit to work in the earth He must work through us.

God Lives In YOU!

2 Corinthians 6:16 states that our body is the residence of God. “You are the temple of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.’” One of the greatest mysteries in the world to me is that the Creator of the Cosmos lives in our clay bodies. So, when we do not acknowledge the Holy Spirit, then we are empty on the inside. We are steadily eating, but can never be satisfied or filled. No amount of material things or people of this world can fill that void. Only the Holy Spirit can satisfy the emptiness and longing within.

There Is More Than The Man In The Mirror

It is difficult to fathom that we are made up of three parts; our spirit, soul, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). So, out of these three parts, we only focus on the part that we can see in the mirror. Subsequently, we continue to try to change the reflection that we see in the mirror. Yet, it is our mind that must be transformed according to the Word of God in order to improve the outer man. If we do not understand that the inner man requires more attention than the outward man, then we will never become mature or fulfill our purpose in the earth.

Live Life From The Inside Out

Life comes from the spirit, not the flesh. We must live from the inside out. It is imperative that we cease trying to live from the outside in. Our goal must be to conform to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29). 2 Corinthians 4:16 says “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day”.  In order to renew our inward man daily, we need to use what my wife, Donis, calls self-talk.

How Do You Talk To Yourself?

Self-talk is speaking affirmations and confessions that line up with the Word over us on a daily basis. Examples of this are: I am healed by the stripes of Jesus (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24). No weapon formed against me shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Everything I put my hands to shall prosper (Deuteronomy 30:9). I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).

We do this because Mark 11:23 tells us that what we speak and believe will be done. We will have what we say. Psalm 103:20 says that angels heed the voice of God’s Word. Basically, the angels wait for us to speak the Word so they can bring it to pass. The writer of Hebrews said in 1:14 that angels are ministering spirits sent forth to minister to us, the heirs of salvation.

Everything Starts In The Spiritual Realm

Keep in mind that the spirit realm creates the physical realm. God is a Spirit and He spoke everything into existence. We are made in His image and likeness. He created us to speak to our situations and for things already created to manifest in the earth. We receive what we believe in our heart and say consistently. Whether we speak good things or bad things. They will come to pass. “A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; From the produce of his lips he shall be filled” (Proverbs 18:20).  Verse 21 says that life and death is in the power of the tongue. And what we release in words shall return back unto us.

God Has Great Plans For Us

When man understands that the Father already has a plan for us and that His plan for us is good, not harm, then we will put a watch on our lips. And we will keep ourselves from speaking things that are contrary to His plan. We may not know what the plan is for our lives. Although we know that His plan is not contrary to His Word in any form or fashion. This will help us to be careful about what we say about ourselves or our circumstances because it could hinder us from fulfilling our purpose.  “For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for prosperity and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11 NASB.

We Are Born With A Longing To Do Great Things

“It is beautiful how God has done everything at the right time. He has put a sense of eternity in people’s minds. Yet, mortals still can’t grasp what God is doing from the beginning to the end [of time].” – Ecclesiastes 3:11 GWT. My friend, this desire lives in the heart or soul of every man. We are born with a longing in our hearts to be or do something great in this life. We often try to fill it with all the wrong things. No material thing can fulfill the inward man.

God Lives In Every Man

The inward man is a spirit and our Father is a Spirit. He has taken up residence in our bodies. Continually He is trying to express Himself in the earth in and through us. So that His purpose may be complete in humanity. Remember, that God lives in every man. And His desire is to express His love for us through one another. God loves us so much that even the scripture asks in Psalms 8:4-6 who is man that you are mindful of him and that you have given him the works of Your hands? John 3:16 tells us that God even sacrificed and gave Himself that we might have eternal peace.

We Are Born to Answer Someone’s Prayer

Paul said in Romans 8:31 “if God be for us who can be against us?” We are born to be the answer to someone else’s prayer. Whether it is through creating vehicles, discovering medicine, or preaching a sermon, we need what others have. You may create a printing press, write a book, open a restaurant or a laundering service. We all need each other in the natural. The same is true in the spiritual. The God in me is trying to bless the God in you. He is always trying to speak to us and through us to be a light to each other. We are born to be a blessing to our heavenly Father and to humanity.
