The Good News: Discovering God’s Grace, Freedom, and Abundance

by Kayla Kennada

Sharing the truths I wish I had known sooner

I have some things on my heart that I’d like to share. I was taught some misconceptions about the Bible in the past, and having come to the knowledge of the truth, I feel compelled to pass it along to those who might benefit. Writing is my way of expressing myself — of getting my thoughts organized and off my chest. And if what I share leads the lost to Jesus, helps those in religion to see the Kingdom of God, or encourages the body of Christ to receive all that He has for them, then I am ecstatic and give God the glory.

The Bible Is Good News — Not a Threat

The Bible is God’s love revealed through Jesus Christ. He loves us so much that Jesus willingly endured agony and death so we could live the abundant life He desired for us. Yet this Good News is often shared by well-meaning but misguided Christians who try to scare people into belief. “Repent from your sins or you will go to hell” makes the Bible sound like bad news. But Scripture tells us it is the goodness of God that draws people to Him (Romans 2:4). God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).

Repentance Means Turning to Grace, Not Just Away from Sin

Jesus brought the Kingdom of God into the earth. That is more Good News! When He said “Repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand,” He was not simply saying to stop sinning. He was calling people to turn away from trying to live by the law and to begin living by grace. Jesus fulfilled the law because we couldn’t. To live by grace is to live free from the guilt of sin and from striving to earn salvation. Grace is receiving righteousness as a gift — at no cost — by believing that Jesus paid the full price on our behalf through His death on the cross. Now that is truly Good News.

Healing Is Already Done

I often hear Christians pray the ineffective prayers I once prayed: “Father, if it’s Your will, then heal me.” Of course it is His will. His will is His Word. The Good News is Jesus took thirty-nine stripes so that we would be healed. There are countless healing scriptures throughout the Bible — Jesus healed all who came to Him. It’s heartbreaking to realize that praying for God to do something is really asking Him to do what He has already done. He rested on the seventh day not because He was tired, but because He was finished. As 2 Peter 1:3 declares, God has already given us everything that pertains to life and godliness. You are already healed, delivered, prosperous, and victorious through the finished work of Jesus Christ.

We Have Authority to Speak to Our Circumstances

Jesus said in Mark 11:23–24 to speak to situations and they will obey us. We can command our troubles to be removed and storms to be still, just as Jesus did. We can speak healing verses over our bodies and declare abundance and provision over our finances. This authority was given to us in Genesis 1. This means the Good News applied is when we believe, we receive. When we receive what is already done, we have it. So give Him thanks and praise for it, even before you see it.

Prayer Is Relationship, Not a Religious Ritual

Prayer is how we have a relationship with Jesus — by communicating with Him continually. We can talk to Him and listen to Him at any time, in any place. You don’t have to strive to get closer to Him. He is always with you and in you. You cannot get any closer than that. What we can do is communicate with Him more intentionally and be led by His Spirit more consistently. He is everywhere you are.

God Desires Abundance, Not Poverty

It is simply not true that God desires us to be poor. More Good News is that Jesus came to give us life — and life more abundantly. Abundance means living in a state of plentifulness, of having more than enough, encompassing both physical and spiritual blessings. When we live in lack, we are limited in our ability to help others. Scripture shows that many of the people God used most powerfully also had great wealth. As Paul wrote, we will prosper as our minds prosper. Knowledge and understanding are key.

Walking in the Kingdom: Grace, Faith, and Identity

Walking in the Kingdom of God means living in His grace and walking by faith. That is great news! Living in His grace is knowing who we are in Him — we are His sons and daughters, heirs of His righteousness. We have already received it, and there is nothing we must do to keep it. It is ours forever. Walking by faith means believing His Word over our circumstances. Speak His Word, know it always accomplishes what it is sent to do, and trust the Spirit of God to guide us. It is in Him that we live, and move, and have our being.

I hope this helps someone. As I continue growing in the knowledge of God, I will keep sharing these truths with those who have ears to hear and eyes to see the Good News. God is great — all the time.
