North Carolina Is Beckoning Me Back To The Beach

by Karen Sargent

Breathing in that salty ocean air. The waves crashing on the shore are soothing to my ears. I look at that beautiful blue water and the sparkling sand, and I can feel my shoulders relax.

I can feel North Carolina calling me back.

Truth be told, I fell in love with it a long time ago. This will be my 12th annual trip. I remember being invited and I can’t believe that I needed to be talked into investing in myself. I’m so glad I made the stretch to get there. Thank you Kem!

I don’t talk about it as much as some people. If you’ve been around Dr. Johnnie Blount for any length of time, you’ve heard about the great state of North Carolina. I have to say I’m a believer! For so many reasons, this is an amazing place to visit.

Do you need some vitamin sea?

Discover the beauty of the North Carolina coast town of Wrightsville Beach and nearby Wilmington. A dose of vitamin sea will lower your blood pressure and boost your spirits. Here are a few of our favorite places.

May we suggest…

May we suggest the Lumina at Wrightsville Beach, a Holiday Inn Resort with beachfront access.

Walks on the beautiful beach are a big draw especially at sunrise and sunset.

Experience Southern hospitality and southern cooking at Ruth’s Kitchen.

Bluewater Waterfront Grill is nearby. Experience great food and don’t miss the view of the marina.

Shoppers delight at the Village at Mayfaire because the variety is amazing. Restaurants, shops and even a movie theater.

Johnnie Mercer Fishing Pier is another favorite stop on the trip. Whether you are fishing or shopping don’t miss admiring the Atlantic Ocean from this pier.

Explore Wilmington

Just a few minutes away from the beach, Wilmington offers a variety of attractions as well. Here are a few.

Cape Fear Museum-Discover the rich history, science and cultures of southeastern NC. Explore regional ecology in the Michael Jordan Discovery Gallery.

Airlie Gardens is a beautiful botanical garden and home to many sculptures from artists in the area.

Battleship North Carolina Tour the historic battleship on the Cape Fear River and discover what the crew felt like during its use in WWII.

Downtown Wilmington Historic District offers shops and restaurants as well as historic mansion tours.

Why?

North Carolina has all the ingredients of a great vacation. For me this trip covers the three R’s. Refresh, the clean air for your body, a breath of life for your spirit. Renew,  the sunrise over the beach is a fresh start. His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:23).  Rest, take a break from the daily grind of life, and get rest for your soul- in the finished work of the cross.
