How to Increase Your Peace, Part 2

by Karen Sargent

Continuing our search for more peace, we find that increasing our peace is the key to success in our lives, both internally and externally.

We have already covered six keys- Staying Connected to the Source, Being a Peacemaker, Keeping Peace as Our Focus, Seeking Peace, Having a Vision of Peace, and Being of One Mind.

Now, let’s learn five more keys in part 2 to increase our peace.

Key # 7 Making Peace

For starters, making peace is like harmonizing. When different parts work toward the same goal to create something beautiful, harmony is achieved. Think of harmony in the sense of music. Each instrument plays its own part and yet together they make music far more beautiful than each individual could.

The same is true of the human body. We are the body of Christ. Just like the parts of our body need to work together in harmony to accomplish things, we are called to help each other and complement one another. Focusing on the same goal makes working together more productive and enjoyable.

Key #8 Sow Peace As A Seed

Next, we all know that we reap what we sow. If we aren’t reaping a harvest of peace, that means we have been sowing something else. Seeking peace and visualizing peace will only take you so far. Sowing peace requires action and planning ahead to have a peaceful outcome.

Reaping this harvest of calm in our daily lives gives us a kind of  peace that passes all understanding. Peace from God will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. It will also boost our joy and our hope.

Key # 9 Choose Peace

Peace is a choice on our part. We choose to let peace rule. Colossians 3:15 says, And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which you were also called in one body; and be thankful.” This is the same type of ruling an umpire does. That calm assurance in you will let you know which way to go.

Let’s not forget that peace can also be a byproduct of our faith in God. Choosing the path of peace involves choosing His ways. Romans 15:13 states, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Key #10 The Promise Of Peace

Next we receive encouragement from the promise in Philippians 2:6-7 says  “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Stand on the promise when your peace is challenged.

Key #11 Jehovah Shalom

Finally, Jehovah Shalom is our peace. Our relationship with our Father is where our increase starts and ends. Peace is our foundation.

One of my favorite mental pictures of peace comes from Shalom. The Hebrew word that is translated peace more literally means nothing missing, nothing broken. Imagine that nothing is missing and nothing is broken in your life, or the country or the world. That’s quite the picture of peace! Increase your awareness that in Him you are whole and complete lacking no good thing!

Now you are ready to go share God’s peace with others and watch your peace increase!
