In Romans 10:1-2, Paul reveals his heart: “God knows how my heart aches with deep and prayerful longing for Israel to realize their salvation. I have been there myself. I know their zeal and devotion; their problem is not their passion, but their ignorance.”
This echoes God’s words through Hosea that His people are destroyed from ignorance (Hosea 4:6). One of the world’s common sayings is “ignorance is bliss”. This is one of the most deceptive lies ever uttered. The lack of knowledge of the Word of Truth is literally a matter of life or death. Those who remain lost are not merely choosing rebellion. They often lack understanding of what salvation truly means and the inheritance we possess as God’s children.
Our Shared Experience, Our Shared Calling
Paul’s empathy for the lost stemmed from his own past. Similarly, every believer has walked in darkness before experiencing God’s light. This shared experience of transformation becomes the foundation for our ministry. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, God “gave us the ministry of reconciliation”. We are called to help others find their way back to the Father through Christ.
Because we have tasted the Father’s love and experience the joy of belonging in His family, we naturally desire others to discover this same relationship. Most effective ministries are indeed born from personal experience. Our past struggles become bridges to reach those still struggling.
Carrying Forward Christ’s Mission
Jesus came with a singular focus: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). During His earthly ministry, Jesus was limited by human form—He could only be in one place at a time. But now, through His Spirit dwelling within believers, His reach extends to every corner of the earth. We become His hands, His voice, His presence in a world that desperately needs Him.
Paul describes this partnership beautifully: “For we are co-workers in God’s service” (1 Corinthians 3:9). We have the privilege of joining God in His redemptive work.
Igniting Passion for the Lost
The contemporary worship song “Set a Fire” captures an essential truth—we need divine passion burning within us. Without genuine enthusiasm and zeal for God’s kingdom, we easily slip into spiritual complacency, content with our own salvation while remaining indifferent to those who are lost.
Take a moment to consider: What if no one had shared the gospel with you? What if those who knew Christ had remained silent? Thankfully, someone cared enough to break their silence. Jesus Himself demonstrated this heart—He didn’t live for His own comfort but poured out His life for others. If Christ truly lives within us, how can our concern be limited to ourselves alone?
Overcoming Fear with Faith
Fear often silences our witness, but Jesus anticipated this struggle. He assured His disciples: “Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit” (Mark 13:11). While most of us won’t face arrest for our faith, the principle remains—God provides the words when we step out in obedience.
Simple Obedience, Powerful Results
The beauty of evangelism lies in its simplicity. We don’t need theological degrees or eloquent speeches. We merely need willing hearts and genuine testimonies. Share how God has transformed your life. Express authentic care for those who are lost. As we align our desires with God’s heart for the lost, He faithfully provides opportunities, words, and results.
The call is clear: Will we allow our past experience of God’s grace to fuel present ministry to others? Will we let Christ’s love compel us to become agents of reconciliation in a broken world?
