A True Story of the Supernatural

My Angel Encounter

Many years ago, the pastor of the church I attended decided to bless all of Evansville, Indiana with their newsletter of encouragement. It was a huge undertaking, but he had organized it with precision. Filling the wall was a huge map, sectioned by zip codes. All of the blocks in each zip code were bundled into groups. Each volunteer was designated at least one group of blocks. We were to walk with a shoulder bag filled with rolled up newsletters placed in clear bags with a hole at the top to hang on door knobs. I was one of those volunteers.

Key Scripture

At our last service before I began my assignment, the pastor taught on Matthew 16:19 about binding and loosening. Whatever we bind on earth is bound in heaven and whatever we loose on earth is loosed in heaven. That fascinated me as I was learning about having what I say, and speaking the Word.

As I was passing out newsletters I was careful to walk on sidewalks and to stay off the grass. Taught as a child, I knew that it was rude to walk through people’s yards. After parking my car on one corner, I walked down that sidewalk and up to each door. Then, when I came to the end of the block I crossed the street to the other side. I repeated the process going door to door until I came to the corner and crossed the street back to my car. Finished with that block, I drove to the next block to begin again. There were several blocks to cover.

The Threat

On the next block, I began walking from my car, when I noticed a tall, stocky, black dog with a large square nose. He was standing in the middle of the street in the middle of the block, watching me. I instinctively felt like I needed to keep an eye on him. As I neared the end of the street he had moved toward me some, but was still a good distance away. After crossing the street I began to walk back toward my car.

I had to pass by the dog again who was still in the middle of the street. This time, the closer I got to him in the middle of the block, he began to snarl at me. Also, the more I walked back toward the dog from the doors, he moved closer to the curb. Now, he was growling very angrily and showing his teeth. To avoid him I started walking close to the houses through the yards. This ferocious dog was now walking parallel with me as I went from house to house.

I Spoke

To my dismay, I came to a fenced in front yard. With nowhere to go except toward the street I slowly stepped forward. The canine stepped toward me growling and snapping fiercely. I stopped in a panic. Remembering the message I heard, I spoke. In my frantic state I squinted my eyes shut as I fearfully and passionately loosened angels to help me. That was all I said.

Help Appeared

When I opened my eyes there was a man standing only a few feet away from the dog. The dog sat quietly and didn’t move. I instantly wondered where the guy came from. I was in awe that the dog did not growl at him and didn’t even growl at me anymore. Saying hello to the man, I then asked if it was his dog. He answered with a long drawn out “Nooooo, it’s not my dog”. This was said in a tone as if to say absolutely not.

Many Questions

My next question was if he knew the dog to which he replied “Yes, I know him”. Again, in a tone that implied he didn’t like knowing him. Then I asked “You aren’t afraid of him?” He told me no as if that was a silly question. In response to this, I related to him how afraid I was because he was growling at me like he was going to hurt me. The man then told it to “go” as he shooed the dog away with a hand gesture. The dog quickly sprinted with his tail between his legs to the other side of the street, ran between the houses, and disappeared.

Now, I was baffled that the dog obeyed the man in that manner when it didn’t belong to him. Questions were running through my mind. How does he know the dog? So, I asked him if he lived around here, but he didn’t. I’m wondering how is it possible he knows the dog then? Sensing that I’ve asked him too many questions already, I left it at that.

Thank You

With the dog gone, I walked toward the sidewalk and came just a few feet away from him. Feeling so grateful, I told him “thank you so much”. He replied that I was welcome. As I was rounding the corner of the fence it occurred to me to give him a newsletter.  Having one already in my hand, I quickly turned as I said “Oh, here.” and then I saw that he was gone. There was nowhere he could have possibly gone so quickly. It finally dawned on me that I had released angels. Obviously, I only needed one.

The Word Is True

This is to encourage you that the Word is true. Psalms 34:8 states “taste and see that the Lord is good”. I have tasted and seen that He is so, so, good! And that is an understatement. Remember Hebrews 13:2 says “Don’t forget to entertain strangers for by doing so some have unwittingly entertained angels.”

The Word is activated on our behalf when we do what it says. I have proven that time and time again. I know that I know, that I know, that God is for you not against you (Romans 8:31)! And greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (John 4:4).
