Not long ago, I had a conversation with Dee where we reflected on how far we’ve come. There was a season in my life when I ran a home and lawn care business, working exhausting hours just to get by. I remember one night while working I was watching people stroll by, and thinking to myself — I wish I could just go for a walk and enjoy life.
Mark 11:24 became alive to me. Jesus Himself promised that whatever we desire in prayer, if we believe we have received it, it will be ours. I made my desire known to God. I wanted to be free, free from poverty, free from the exhaustion of barely getting by, free to enjoy the abundant life I saw others living. So I did what faith requires: I imagined it before I experienced it. I saw myself walking through an elaborate, peaceful community, unhurried and unworried, living the life God always intended for me. Faith needed a picture, and I gave it one.
The Battle Begins in the Mind
Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” What we believe about ourselves determines how we live. This is not just positive thinking, it is a spiritual principle with real consequences.
In Numbers 13, Moses sent twelve spies into the Promised Land. They spent forty days surveying the territory, and they came back with a report that confirmed everything God had promised. It was a land flowing with milk and honey. And then came the but. There were giants.
Here is something worth noting: anytime God calls you to something, giants will show up. Fear, doubt, and unbelief are giants. Anything designed to keep you from walking in what God has called you to is a giant. But the size of the giant does not change the faithfulness of God. He will never leave you nor forsake you, and He has never lost a battle.
Salvation Is Bigger Than You Think
When you accepted salvation, you didn’t just receive forgiveness, you received an inheritance. Health, prosperity, and good success are all part of the package. Jesus became a curse so that you would never have to live under one (Galatians 3:13). You are no longer subject to the curse of the law. You live under grace, and as 2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds us, His grace is sufficient.
2 Peter 1:3 makes it plain: everything pertaining to life and godliness has already been provided for you. The abundant life Jesus came to give (John 10:10) is not reserved for a select few. It belongs to every believer.
Ecclesiastes records the story of a poor wise man who saved an entire city, yet his name was forgotten because of his poverty. Obscurity and lack are not the will of God for His children. We have a King for a Father. It is time we received our inheritance.
You Are Royalty — Act Like It
Revelation 5:10 declares that we have been made kings and priests unto God. That is not a title for someday — that is who you are right now. As a king, you carry dominion. You have the authority to decree a thing and see it established (Job 22:28). When you speak what the Word says, you position yourself to have what the Word promises.
But here is where many believers get stuck: we receive about ourselves what is contrary to the Word. We confess lack, sickness, and defeat while the Word declares abundance, healing, and victory. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17), and it is faith that produces change.
Numbers 13:33 tells us that the Israelites saw themselves as grasshoppers in their own sight — and that limited vision cost them an entire generation. Vision matters. In Genesis 13:14-15, God told Abraham to look in every direction, because the land he could see would be given to him. You can only possess what you can see.
See Yourself as God Sees You
The journey from lack to abundance, from grasshopper to king, begins with a renewed mind. It starts when you choose to see yourself the way God sees you — not based on your past, your circumstances, or your bank account, but based on His Word.
You are not a grasshopper. The Word says you are an heir. You are royalty. Now start living like it.
